The Holy Spirt has been ministering to me today and I hope that this post helps someone out there today.
April has been a VERY full, good and potentially-stressful month for my wife and I. I’ve something had on the schedule almost every day – meetings, phone conferences, multiple doctor appointments, video shoot, photo shoot, 6yr anniversary, consultations, and a bunch of other small-but-big stuff. #crazy
This morning I started feeling overwhelmed because there’s just so much on my list that I need to get done. You know that feeling you get when you have so much to do that and then you get anxious and start to have anxiety?? And, you usually are short and snappy with people?? That’s how I was feeling this morning. I’m normally pretty good at keeping it all together and handling the stress, but sometimes things go beyond your control and you need the Lord’s help. Often times we feel like we can handle everything. We get so caught up in taking care of everyone and getting things done that sometimes we don’t realize how much we do until we can’t carry the plate any longer.
Today after the morning show, I told a friend (Meeke) how I was feeling and she gave me some great encouragement. She reminded me of this scripture:
Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
When I heard her quote the scripture, I was thinking to myself, “yeah I know the scripture; I’ve read it before”. But after about 30 minutes the Holy Spirit started to deal with me about that scripture and about my stressful situation and anxious feelings.
I know practical tips on how to be productive and keep stress down, but sometimes that stuff just doesn’t work. LOL. Sometimes, you need the Word of God to minister to your heart and mind. He reminded of a song by Francesca Battistelli called “This Is The Stuff”. I’ve always liked that song, but today it, coupled with that scripture, really helped me to calm down and get my mind right.
So I want to encourage you today: don’t worry so much about the day-to-day things that need to be done. If you don’t get those things on your list done today, guess what? They’ll still be here tomorrow. Try not to be anxious and let God minister to your soul as He did for me.
